This is an extension of the main building which was opened in 1968. Access to the Research Library is restricted to faculty members of staff, postgraduate students and researchers.
Final year undergraduates may be allowed to use the place, only on the recommendation of their heads of departments. The important collections housed in the Research Library are:
The Reference Collection: comprising encyclopedias, dictionaries, directories, handbooks and manuals, bibliographies, indexes and abstracts. The Reference Librarian is always around to help users make use of this collection and do CD-ROM searches.
The Africana Collection; which includes newspapers, magazines and books on African affairs and publications acquired through the legal deposit and publications ordinance (P.O). The collection is in closed access. Requests for consultation of these materials are serviced by the Assistants at the control desk of the research library.
The Theses Collection: This is a collection of Ph.D. theses submitted to the university. They are also in closed access.
Electronic Resources: the Library has a number of CD-ROM databases covering almost all disciplines. A number of computer systems have been dedicated for Internet searches at moderate charges. A "Help Desk" is provided to assist users whenever they want to use these resources.
